1st Malaysian Global Awards Presenters Confirmed

The hallmark event is set to dazzle with star-studded cast

The inaugural edition of the Malaysian Golden Global Awards (MGGA), in conjunction with the first ever Malaysian International Film Fest (MIFFEST), is proud to present the hosts and performers gracing the event.

8TV’s primetime news patrolman, Owen Yap, will be joined by Malaysia’s Godfather of stand-up comedy, Harith Iskander, as the dynamic duo-emcees of the night, pointing towards a night skewed towards comedy as they lead the presentation for Malaysian cinema’s best of the best.

Meanwhile, renowned crooners and performers set to entertain the crowd include the talented roster of Malaysia’s Queen of Jazz, Sheila Majid, and multi award-winning electric violinist and songwriter, Dennis Lau.

Taiwan-based and Hito Pop Music Awards Best Male Singer, Victor Wong, will be returning to his home country to perform while Shila Amzah, the nation’s Princess of Music, will be completing the lineup, looking to electrify audiences with her upbeat pop hits.

18 international and local films will be competing for various awards in these categories: Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Director, Best New Director, Best Film, Best Screenplay, and Best Cinematography. A Lifetime Achievement Award is also to be bestowed on a yet-unnamed recipient, as well as an Audience Choice Award.

German comedy Toni Erdmann, which is also vying for the Best Foreign Language Film award at this year’s Oscars, shares the most nominations (at five apiece) with Filipino family drama, Ma’Rosa, Taiwanese romance drama, The Road To Mandalay, South Korean horror thriller, The Wailing, and Chinese romance film, One Night Only. Malaysian films, Interchange and Singing In Graveyards (co-produced with The Philippines), will be vying for Best Film with the aforementioned titles.

MGGA launches on 5th March 2017, Sunday, 8pm at the Arena of Stars in Resorts World Genting. A live telecast of the awards ceremony will be broadcast on Astro A-List, while TV iQIYI will stream the event online.

Janice freelances as a Screenwriter and Director in the Philippines and the U.S., but her first, great love will always be Creative Writing. She's contributed for dailies and magazines in her island hometown of Cebu from the age of 14. One of her most exciting writing gigs was in the Film section of the now-defunct lifestyle webzine, Limité, in which she got to interview one of her filmmaker heroes, Richard Linklater in New York City in 2012. When she's not writing or daydreaming up stories, Janice loves to go backpacking around small islands, making driftwood art, and playing with her Shih-Poo dog, Brandy.
