Southeast Asian Film Financing Project Market 2017 Now Open For Submissions

Southeast Asia’s Largest Film Financing Platform To Select 15 Projects.

ScreenSingapore, Southeast Asia’s leading marketplace for filmmakers, producers, distributors, financiers, and film buyers to explore co-production opportunities and learn about the changing film landscape, will once again host the Southeast Asian Film Financing (SAFF) Project Market, now on its 3rd edition. SAFF Project Market 2017 will replicate its popular structure and feature up to 15 projects, where, in line with the 2017 Singapore Media Festival’s focus on Indonesia, 5 will hail from the world’s fourth largest nation.

Established in the industry as the year’s highlight to look out for, the SAFF Project Market aims to match promising feature-length projects with a global network of media financiers, distributors, and collaborators who can bring these projects to fruition.

“When I was chosen, I was truly excited to be part of a special community of Southeast Asian film producers and also enjoyed the opportunity to meet up with industry decision makers from around the world,” said Trinh Le Minh Hang, General Manager, Skyline Media and Producer of Mamafia.   Mamafia was one of the 15 projects featured in SAFF Project Market 2016, where it won a USD 35,000 full audio post-production award courtesy of Malaysian-based, Imaginex Studios.

Alongside ScreenSingapore, SAFF is also co-organized by the Southeast Asian Audio-Visual Association (SAAVA) and Ties That Bind: Asia/Europe Producers Workshop (TTB), which aims to connect producers and their promising in-development fiction and non-fiction feature-length projects with commissioners, investors, and co-production partners. SAFF highlights SAAVA’s objective to represent regional media investment and facilitate best practices in content producing, financing and distribution in order to promote Southeast Asian films and stories.

“We’re happy to come together with our partner organisations in Singapore and Europe to open up the SAFF Project Market once more to producers and filmmakers with regional projects with each edition growing from strength to strength. It gives us all immense pride to see how far some of our alumni and featured projects have come in their financing, production and distribution and we’re excited in continuing to support regional filmmakers in connecting them with funding from all over the world,” said Justin Deimen, Executive Director of SAAVA and Managing Partner of Aurora Media Holdings. The Aurora Producing Award, an SGD20,000 co-production investment towards a project at SAFF Project Market 2017, will once again be sponsored by Aurora Media Holdings.

The selection of the final 15 projects will be made by an esteemed panel of international film industry experts that will include Chan Gin Kai, Executive Producer of Silver Media Group / Chairman of the Southeast Asian Audio-Visual Association (SAAVA), Kristina Trapp – CEO of European Audiovisual Entrepreneurs (EAVE), Marco Mueller – Artistic Director, Pingyao Film Festival, and Krishnan Rajagopalan, Founder, Laughing Elephant (and Co-Founder, HOOQ), to name a few.

SAFF Project Market 2017 will take place on 29 November – 1 December, 2017 at Marina Bay Sands in Singapore.   Submissions for SAFF Project Market will close on August 20, 2017. For more information on how to submit your entry, please refer to SAFF Project Market 2017

Janice freelances as a Screenwriter and Director in the Philippines and the U.S., but her first, great love will always be Creative Writing. She's contributed for dailies and magazines in her island hometown of Cebu from the age of 14. One of her most exciting writing gigs was in the Film section of the now-defunct lifestyle webzine, Limité, in which she got to interview one of her filmmaker heroes, Richard Linklater in New York City in 2012. When she's not writing or daydreaming up stories, Janice loves to go backpacking around small islands, making driftwood art, and playing with her Shih-Poo dog, Brandy.
