2nd Viddsee Juree Awards Call For Entries

Taking place in Manila, Philippines this year with hefty prizes at stake.

Viddsee, the trailblazing online video service that specializes in the curation and broadcasting of Asian short films, is holding its 2nd edition of the Viddsee Juree Awards, a competition held to celebrate an international jury’s picks of Asian short films from all genres: fiction, documentary, and animation. The Singaporean-based website started Viddsee Juree Awards last year in Indonesia, which embarked on a six-city roadshow all over the nation and culminated in an awards ceremony in Jakarta.

This year’s Viddsee Juree Awards will run in Manila in the Philippines, wherein Filipino filmmakers will be eligible for an opportunity for their films to be watched and judged by an international jury panel. Shortlisted films will be promoted on the portal, which has over 3 million monthly streams from audiences worldwide, and will be selected for film screenings around various cities in the Philippines.

In order to be eligible, submitted films must be completed after 1st January 2015 until present. Submitted films that are already uploaded on other streaming websites (i.e. Youtube, Vimeo) are permissible. Films that are presented using their original native language or dialect must be subtitled in English. Each submitted film must not go beyond 30 minutes (including end credits).

The Viddsee Juree Awards Manila lists an impressive catalog of prizes, starting with the Viddsee Juree Gold Award, which bestows the lucky filmmaker with a Blackmagic URSA Mini 4.6K Digital Cinema Camera EF package worth approximately USD 5,000. Additionally, the Gold Awardee will be offered a 5-day Film Immersion Course in Los Angeles, courtesy of the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) The filmmaker who wins the Viddsee Juree Silver Award, meanwhile, gets to take home a Blackmagic DaVinci Resolve Micro Panel worth approximately USD 1,000. For the 10 short film finalists, free DCP conversion will be offered by Crowning Glory Post Production based in Quezon City in Manila.

Viddsee, originally a web-based short film distribution platform for Southeast Asian independent filmmakers, has grown into a much larger streaming network that’s proudly homegrown in the region. Since launching in 2012, it has expanded greatly with bigger network collaborations, like for instance, with Lifetime Asia, a subsidiary of A+E Networks, wherein the latter will feature Viddsee-curated short films that particularly focus on female-driven themes.

The Viddsee Juree Awards Manila submission of entries is now ongoing and runs until 14th September 2017. To find out more about this awesome contest, click here: Viddsee Juree Awards Manila.

She's contributed for dailies and magazines in her island hometown of Cebu from the age of 14. One of her most exciting writing gigs was in the Film section of the now-defunct lifestyle webzine, Limité, in which she got to interview one of her filmmaker heroes, Richard Linklater in New York City in 2012. When she's not writing or daydreaming up stories, Janice loves to go backpacking around small islands, making driftwood art, and playing with her Shih-Poo dog, Brandy.
