Singapore’s Salt Media Acquires Film Rights to Best-Selling Book
Singaporean financier/distributor Salt Media & Entertainment lands the film adaptation rights to POW story set in Vietnam by lauded self-help business guru Col. Lee Ellis, based on his book Leading with Honor: Leadership Lessons from the Hanoi Hilton
Values-based content producing and investment firm Salt Media & Entertainment will be producing a biopic based on the former Air Force pilot and prisoner-of-war Colonel Lee Ellis’s experiences during the Vietnam war.
Based on the book Ellis penned, the film will delve into the psyche and dilemma faced by the POWs during the Vietnam War. Ellis was held as a prisoner at the infamous “Hanoi Hilton” for more than 5 years, along with US senator John McCain, who was held in a neighboring cell and has endorsed the book over the past few years. The project, tentatively called Leading with Honor, is being written by Robert Bruzio, who also wrote “Stano”, which Salt Media co-financed, and stars Joe Manganiello and Sofia Vergara.
Senator McCain endorses the book and its message, writing in its foreword: – “Lee Ellis and I share a bond that goes back to our experience in the POW camps of North Vietnam. He was captured 11 days after me, and we occupied neighbouring cells in the Hanoi Hilton for 18 months of our captivity. We have been friends ever since. Leading with Honor is about putting service to others ahead of self-interest. It means keeping your word and your commitments. It means serving sacrificially in a way that upholds the values that historically have made our nation great, our people proud and our families strong. My friend Lee Ellis presents these lessons in an exciting and practical way. I thank Lee for bringing this conversation to the forefront of our national discussion.”
The project will be produced in the United States and in Southeast Asia with financing, casting packages, and distribution to be put together from both territories. Early partners include fellow financing entities Aurora Global Media Capital and Silver Media Group. The producing trio previously invested and produced 100 Yards, a sports drama shot in Los Angeles and Cebu City in the Philippines for global distribution.
Sherman Ng, Founder of Salt Media & Entertainment says, “We are very happy to be involved with great projects and partners in 2018. Leading with Honor is an exceptional story and a powerful character study. Looking ahead, we are excited about forging ahead in our space of developing values-based content globally. We will be diligent to consistently build meaningful partnerships and deliver excellent products.”
Salt Media’s portfolio of investments in 2017 include the animation series Abbie Rose and the Magic Suitcase based on the best-selling children’s book series, 100 Yards with Sean Patrick Flanery, Stano with the producers of the legendary Rocky franchise, as well as the Geoffrey Rush-starring Storm Boy, the modern reimagining of the classic Australian children’s film.
